The Designer, Not the Drinker

When I first saw the name Karen Walker in connection to fashion, I wondered what the vodka-swilling lush from Will & Grace had to do with it. (Apparently more than I care to know because when you Google “Karen Walker” and “fashion” you get to a site where you can buy the clothes Karen Walker wore on the show. That’s ten kinds of scary!) Well, I’m glad I got up to speed, because I’d be missing out on a fantastic designer.
Walker is a New Zealander based in London. She’s had her own label since the 1990’s but I don’t believe too many Americans are hip to her just yet. Her line is gaining a bigger international following and there’s good reason.
My favorites are the sleek, simple dresses and the slouchy outwear. I’m also a sucker for berets and there were a lot of those on the runway. The Karen Walker brand covers everything from charm necklaces to eyewear, but I think I’m going to concentrate on admiring the clothes. Walker will be showing her Spring/Summer 2007 collection in New York for the first time this September. We’re sure to see and hear more of her now.
Steady Rocking

You know that downtown girl who just rolled out of bed at noon and is sitting at a table at the corner coffee shop, clutching her mug with both hands, wearing sunglasses indoors? She looks like she threw on clothes from a pile on her bed. She’s probably rubbing remnants of last night’s mascara from her eyes. Yet somehow she looks so cool. Yeah, I’m not that girl. But I like her clothes.
That’s the type of girl I’d imagine who would be in love with Daryl K. The line has always had that combination of hard and loose. Designer Daryl Kerrigan was doing skinny pants before the look hit the masses in force past few seasons. Now after a few tumultuous years of business struggles, Daryl K is back on track and better than ever.
I seriously love every single look from the fall collection but here are some of my favorites:
A quick check of the internet shows there are several online boutiques that stock Daryl K. Rock ‘n roll.
