My handbag radar is trained on this fabulous thing.

Marc Jacobs Collection
Mark Jacobs
My latest bag obsession from Marc by Marc Jacobs

Love the bangs on model Shannan Click.  Maybe I’m more obsessed with bangs than bags lately.  Anyway, at $358 the price is right.  Well, compared to my other bag obsession.

Tod's Bensonville
Tod’s Bensonville

Normally I’m not into Tod’s at all.   Their bags have always been on the boring side, but now they’re offering some fresher designs and bolder colors.  I love the blue.  It will transition from this season into spring easily.  Might as well get more for your money ladies.

Which would you choose?

Grey Gardens
Grey Gardens

Fashion takes a seriously trippy direction in Grey Gardens, which I saw for the first time last night.  I was completely entranced by the eccentric lives of Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter “Little Edie” Beale (relatives of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis).  Big Edie works her floppy hat while singing songs from a bygone era, and Little Edie – just seeing her kooky headwraps makes the movie worthwhile.

My poor husband however, was appalled by the movie and couldn’t take it after 30 minutes.  I guess their bat-shit crazy banter would drive most people… well, bat-shit.  Parts of the movie were pretty appalling, especially seeing the squalid conditions of their Hamptons mansion.  But somehow their sad delusions and dysfunctional codependency wasn’t completely disturbing.  I think even when they were miserable, especially Little Edie, she and her mother were still living their lives the best they could.  With a new Broadway musical and movie about their lives in the works, I wonder if we’re going to see more of the headwrap?

Shaded But Not Jaded
September 14 | Favorite Things

I’ve learned a lesson in economy recently.  Not everything that’s inexpensive is cheap and sometimes cheap can actually be expensive.  Here’s the story:  I recently bought a pair of $14 sunglasses from Urban Outfitters because I left mine at home on a bright day.  Very stupid, but the purchase was quite smart.

Aviator Sunglasses
My $14 sunglasses are now $10 at Urban Outfitters

Before this I had not bought anything at Urban Outfitters in years.  I’m 33 and not really in their demo.  As tempting as it is to get a basic tee for cheap, I’d rather spend a little more to get something a bit more refined.  So out of sheer desperation I walked into the store, tried on a few pairs of sunglasses and quickly paid for the aviators in five minutes flat.  It was the best 14 bucks I’ve ever spent!  These have even replaced my old Michael Kors sunglasses.   I don’t ever buy really expensive sunglasses to begin with, but now I’m convinced you can go the cheap route and still find something decent.  Hey, they aren’t Prada but they’re sturdy, not skewed (a big problem with cheap sunglasses) and did I mention they cost me $14 bucks?

Loving Loeffler Randall

If you haven’t jumped on the Loeffler Randall bandwagon, here are a few reasons to join in.

Hattie Handbag

Matilde Anaconde

Hedda Bow Flats

Devon Platform Slingbacks

Loeffler Randall unveiled a new handbag line for fall and I am absolutely coveting the Hattie in blue.  I love the vintage-inspired shoe designs and beautiful flourishes.  The Devon is the perfect example, with the cool wooden platform and contrast stitching details.  I also love the metallic Vava clutch and the purple Harlow flats.

You can view the Loeffler Randall Fall 2006 handbag and shoe collection on their website, but you have to open PDF’s with poor pictures.  It’s kind of annoying.  However, you can check out parts of the collection on Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Shopbop, LaGarconne, and Pink Mascara.  I hope all of the Loeffler Randall fall pieces will hit online stores at some point.  I could stock up on the entire collection!  (Not that I have tons of extra cash to spare, but you get the idea.)  Anyway, I can see why the brand was nominated for a 2006 CFDA award in emerging accessories design.  Speaking of getting more attention, designer Jessie Randall is on the cover of the September issue of Domino Magazine.  The fan club seems to be growing.

Put a Lid On It
August 21 | Favorite Things

It’s the perfect remedy to a bad hair day and an easy way to add a little glamour to your look.  Best of all, it’s one of the least expensive ways to perk up a tired wardrobe.

Urban Outfitters has a nice selection of hats at even nicer prices. And fear not, all you gals who think you’re a little beyond the Urban Outfitters demographic (that would include me).  There are some polished looks for those of us who left college years ago.

Knit Beret
Bucket Hat
Striped knit beret
Felt bucket hat
Wool Cabbie
Wool Cap with Patent Rim
Wool cabbie with bow
Wool cap with patent trim

These are all priced at 38 bucks and under.  Not bad for a cheap mood booster.  The only thing cheaper would be new lipstick and I have way too many of those.
